Initial Consultation & Assessment

• Your orthodontist takes x-rays, photographs, and scans to evaluate your bite, tooth alignment and jaw position.

• You discuss your goals, options, duration, cost, and any orthodontic appliances required.

Treatment Planning

• A customised plan is created: which appliance (braces/aligners), how often you’ll visit, expected duration. 

• Sometimes preparatory work is done (e.g., spacers, extractions, or cleaning).

Appliance Placement

• If braces: brackets and wires are fitted; if aligners: first set of aligners given. 

• You’ll be given instructions on how to care for the appliance, what to expect in the first days.

Active Treatment & Adjustments

• Regular visits (usually every 4-6 weeks or as your orthodontist prescribes) to check progress, tighten wires, change aligners or adjust bands/elastic wear. 

• You maintain daily oral hygiene: brushing, flossing, avoid hard/sticky foods, wear any additional devices (rubber bands, etc). 

Finishing & Removal

• Once teeth are aligned and the bite is corrected, the braces or aligners are removed. 

• A retainer is given to maintain your results.

Retention (Aftercare)

• Wearing your retainer as instructed is essential to prevent relapse (teeth moving back). 

• Continue with regular dental check-ups, maintain good hygiene and avoid habits that might undo the work (like chewing pens, using teeth as tools).
